West coast event
On the 3-5th May NAC Team Green travelled to Greymouth for a Training exercise with members of Blue and Red teams, who are based at CSG and DAC.
Green Team consists of Sierra (CO), Quade (2ic), Label (support), Morgin Black (alternate). Druss the Legend (scout/sniper) was unable to travel due to work commitments.
Friday afternoon NAC Green did a quick recon of the area. We stayed in a Scouts NZ hut which was surrounded on 3 sides by thick native bush and the fourth side was beach front. Afterwards we all gathered at the Greymouth Aeropub for our Briefing and a few beers.
Saturday morning was spent being trained in the art of using a map and compass, and basic 1st Aid tailored to possible Airsoft related injuries. Lunch time a journalist from the Greymouth paper arrived, we did a mock ambush where NAC Green ambushed, captured and then retreated into the bush with the journalist. Sound grenades were used on a trip wire as the reporter arrived.
Saturday evening we did a 4 hour rolling V.C trail along a bush walk track through the dense native bush, this included: bridges, swampy puddles, hills and creek crossings. All players involved did extremely well. But the obvious cohesion of the 4 NAC players (as V.C) was above that of the mixed team (Americans) made up of the 3 CSG and 4 DAC players.
Afterwards we all gathered round the open fire for food and drink and more than a few laughs. All in all a great time was had. Special thanks to Shaun ‘Flamehound’ Coates for all the preparation put into the weekend. And to Riley Baker Photography for the photos.
Looking forward to the next op-ex.
